Your participation in WHEELS FOR MEALS will help Meals On Wheels of Greenville prepare and deliver approximately 400,000 hot nutritious meals to homebound residents of Greenville County.  Each day Meals On Wheels of Greenville reaches nearly 1,500 people with life-sustaining meals that are delivered by caring loving volunteers.

The inaugural Wheels for Meals cycling event was a huge success.  Almost 300 riders participated in the event held April 28, 2007 in Greenville, SC to benefit Meals On Wheels of Greenville.  Over $83,000 was raised to help provide hot nutritious meals to the elderly or incapacitated residents of Greenville County.

Over 110 riders participated in the Metric Century ride which left the stadium from downtown Greenville and followed a route that followed some very scenic countryside before taking riders past Camp Old Indian and over some very challenging mountains in Northern Greenville county.   Shortly after the metric ride left the stadium, over 95 riders set off on the 25 mile ride which took them from downtown Greenville and to the foothills of Paris Mountain which proved to be a test of endurance even on this shorter ride.   Along both course routes, riders were provided support, encouragement and nourishment by numerous volunteers at all of the rest stops. 

The Family Fun Ride began with over 65 parents and children taking two laps around the warning track of the ballfield inside the stadium then continuing on to the trail along the Reedy River downtown.  In all, participants completed over 4 miles before returning to the stadium where all children were able to participate in the bike safety rodeo which was directed by Safe Kids along with the Greenville Spinners Safety Foundation.  As part of the safety rodeo, children were fitted for free bike helmets.

After participants returned from their rides, everyone was able to relax and enjoy the fun and festivities inside the stadium.  The feedback and response from riders about the event has been overwhelmingly positive with expectations that they will return for next year’s event.
